International Forum. Expanding the Role of Women in Cross-Cultural Dialogue. June 10 – 11, 2008, Baku, Azerbaijan
Dear Ms. Kazimova,
On June 10-11, 2008, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will organize the International Forum “Expanding the Role of Women in Cross-Cultural Dialogue” to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). The Organizing Committee has the pleasure to invite you to this Forum and believes that your participation will considerably enrich the quality of discourse and contribute to its success.
Throughout history, women have played a significant and positive role in bearing responsibility for new life in the world. Therefore, we are all concerned with certain symptoms of possible quarrel of civilizations threatening our common future. At the Baku Forum, we will explore challenges of globalization in the context of intercultural dialogue, issues of cultural identification, universal system of common human values, questions of religious renaissance, etc.
Azerbaijan as a country of the historic Great Silk Road participates today in a number of international and regional projects aimed at the restoration of the Silk Road. As this Road contributed, in particular, to cross-cultural dialogue, we believe that the Forum would become an important step to launch helpful exchange of ideas on many critical issues of today and build tolerance within individual cultures.
We are convinced that visiting Azerbaijan, which was in 1918 the first country in the East to extend voting rights to women, and is famous for centuries-long history of genuine tolerance, would be interesting for you and will advance our cooperation.
Arabic, Azerbaijani, English, French, and Russian are the working languages of the Forum. Texts of presentations sent to organizers before 20 May 2008, will be published by the time the Forum convenes. We will also examine a number of specific steps, including publications and the holding of future meetings in Baku and elsewhere, and consider the adoption of a declaration on the steps the women of the world should take in the future.
The Organizing Committee will cover travel expenses and provide board and lodging for the Forum participants. The Organizing Committee would appreciate receiving your kind response by April 15, 2008, sent to email@example.com. Additional information will be provided upon receipt of your response.
